Key Largo is located in the south of Florida offering a subtropical climate. Summer can be humid with afternoon storms, which only last a very short time. The sun usually reappears very quickly. This climate has endowed Florida with gorgeous beaches and blue lagoons lined with mangroves, palm trees and tropical flora. Thousands of small islands, known as "the keys," stretch along coral reefs over 150 miles (241 km) below the southern tip of Florida. It is possible to drive over the ocean on 42 bridges and causeways connecting the keys until you reach Key West 119 miles (191 km) out on the Gulf of Mexico.
